DescriptionAccording to ILGA: Law No. 2,985 (2017) of the city of Petrolina, in the state of Pernambuco, prohibits the use of "neutral language". This law, along with other similar laws, have been challenged before the Brazilian Federal Supreme Tribunal. Its effects have been suspended by preliminary rulings and the final decision is still pending.
Moreover, other laws banning "gender ideology" and "gender theory, issues of gender, gender identity or gender ideology" were passed in 2017 in Araripina and Garanhuns, respectively.
